A lesson well learnt

I was watching the movie “Quantum of Solace” a couple of days ago and I happened to rememeber a very funny incident which had thrown me into fits of laughter couple of years ago! Well, James Bond movies are anything but FUNNY!! Anyways, here's why..

It was the end of the year and birthday season was just around the corner. (“Birthday season” simply means that I share my birthday with 2 other cousins of mine and all 3 of us are Sagittarians-like minded in most ways!!) So, me and one of my cousins decided to spend this season a bit differently; we hitched up @ Garuda mall and spent a lot of time rambling thru the mall, looking for nothing in particular, talking nineteen to the dozen!! We figured we couldn’t just go on doing nothing the whole day! So we decided to idle away the hours by watching a movie! It was on my insistence that we bought tickets for “Casino Royale” much to my cousin’s despair! I wanted to see if Daniel Craig fit well in Bond’s shoes! My cousin had his own prejudices of Daniel Craig being a James Bond and wasn’t as excited as me! Nevertheless, we found ourselves making our way through a horde of movie-enthusiasts on a buzzing Saturday afternoon! We were lucky enough to get a very snug seating at the 3rd row from top. The hall was jam-packed within no time and soon we found ourselves seated next to a couple who had apparently brought their 6ish year old son along with them.

The movie had gripped me tight and only occasionally was I distracted by the incessant giggles of my cousin who found the movie somewhat funny. (For the records-my cousin has a very humorous outlook and is well known in the family for his witty one-liners!!)

The movie was archetypal of any Bond movie-non-stop action, far-fetched gadgets, flying cars and seductive heroines!! Perhaps all the elements to make a very good “family movie” ?? Hmmm.. not so much.. and our neighbors, (the couple with the kid) learnt this lesson the hard way!

And here’s the prelude : Our “shaken, but not stirred..” Bond, womanizer that he is, can’t escape the charms of a beautiful seductive Eva Green!! And just when u go “here comes THE scene” u are rendered immobile and mute by the gravity of ur own embarrassments that the situation puts u in! I found myself in a very similar situation too and so did the crowd, who was shushed by the exotic scene on the screen. There was unmistakable stillness in the air until the ever- so decorous kid next to us cried out in exasperation “papa, why u closing my eyes, I didn’t see anything!! Please, please!!” And what followed next was a huge uproar of laughter that drowned out the steamy hot scene on screen! The couple, embarrassed by the mere folly of their action, must have thanked the angels for the obscurity that the movie theatre bestows upon people like them who try to flee the prying eyes of our fellow countrymen! However, the couple feigned a half-hearted smile at us in not as much as casualness as caught-with- the-hand-in-candy jar” sort of a look!

My cousin who has a great taste for humor couldn’t stop laughing the whole time! It was sure he had outright fun!! And the miserable couple who bore the brunt of their kid’s blatant outburst, learnt a lesson that James Bond is certainly not the kind of movie you want to watch with kids!!

Needless to mention, i had fun too :)

Cheerios!!
